Archie Leslie Clark was born in Butte, Montana, on August 23, 1896, the youngest of 8 children of William A. and Anna Clark. As a young man he went to work for the Montana Standard newspaper. He was city editor for the Butte Miner during the 1920s, and a reporter for the Great Falls Tribune from about 1937 to about 1960.
