Blacksmith's ledger and young girl's scrapbook [manuscript], 1858-1865, 1888-1895.

Journal of an unidentified [Virginia?] blacksmith includes a page of rates in 1864 for various services. Accounts are kept in "Federal Currency" with payments in "present currency." Inserted in the volume are entries for the Albemarle County sawmill of Campbell and Sampson (later Joseph W. Camptell & Co.) containing accounts for board and fencing plank with Dr. Charles Everett, Dr. James Minor, William Cabell Rives, and the Virginia Central Railroad among others. At least one purchase for the University of Virginia is mentioned. A scrapbook of Sallie C. Sampson, 1888-1895, consists almost entirely of assorted humorous, inspirational and sentimental clippings together with obituaries, poetry and songs. A few greeting cards are pasted in and one page contains 8 locks of hair. The album also contains pressed leaves, a sign language chart , photographs of unidentified men, one of whom is wearing an Eli Banana ribbon, and a menu for July 19, 1892, at the White Sulphur Springs. A letter from "Joseph," 1884 August 21, concerns the renting of an unidentified farm.
