Correspondence, chiefly 1839-1877, of members of the Dickson family of Charleston, S.C., and Asheville, N.C. Included are letters from John Dickson (1795-1847), Congregational minister, teacher, and physician in Asheville, to his son, John A. Dickson (b. 1825) at school; letters from Samuel Henry Dickson (1798-1872) of the Medical College of South Carolina at Charleston to relatives in North Carolina; and from Joseph F. O'Hear in Charleston to his sister, Louisa O'Hear Dickson, wife of John Dickson. Papers mostly concern family matters with occasional references to national and North Carolina politics, medical education, and the estate of John Dickson.
