This collection contains photographs, papers, and diaries relating to the families of businessman Peter Kerr (1861-1957) and Laurie King Kerr (1877-1959), as well as Thomas Kerr (1865-1926) and Mabel Macleay Kerr (1876-1973), both of Portland, Or. Most of the photographs are Kodak snapshots taken by Peter Kerr of his family and friends at his home at Elk Rock in the Dunthorpe neighborhood in Portland, as well as photographs of the Kerr families' excursions to Gearhart and Ecola on the Oregon coast and other travels to England, Scotland, and various places in the United States, including photos of Peter and Laurie Kerr's honeymoon in 1905. There are also three albums of photographs taken by Peter Kerr's daughter, Anne Kerr McDonald (1906-2001) on her travels in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Family members depicted in the photographs include Peter and Laurie Kerr and their daughters, Jane Kerr Platt (1908-1989) and Anne Kerr McDonald; Jane's husband John W. S. Platt and Anne's husband Sir James McDonald (1899-1989), British consul in Oregon, and their children; and Thomas and Mabel Kerr and their children, Donald Macleay Kerr (1907-1945), Thomas Kerr, Jr. (1910-1982), and George A. D. Kerr (1914-2004), among many other family members and friends. There are also photographs relating to the Sibson & Kerr shipping agent business; Peter Kerr's grain export business, Kerr, Gifford & Co., Inc.; the Arlington Club; and Waverley Country Club (then spelled "Waverly") . Includes autochromes, ambrotypes, tintypes, cabinet cards, cartes de visite, and photographic negatives. Manuscripts in this collection include diaries kept by Peter Kerr from 1876-1894, a scrapbook kept by him entitled "The Veracious Chronicles of the Cliff Cottage Club" that dates from 1897-1905, and his birth certificate and other papers. There are also diaries and letters kept by Lucretia Colton, great-grandmother of Anne Kerr McDonald, from 1816-1817; clippings and other papers relating to Laurie King Kerr; and baptismal certificates for the McDonald family children, among other papers.
