John L. Swain papers, 1862-1877; 1893 [manuscript].

Scattered letters, 1862-1877, sent and received by Swain of Buncombe County, N.C., captain in the 17th N.C. Regiment stationed in eastern North Carolina and a Methodist minister in North Carolina after the Civil War. The letters deal briefly with military and Methodist activities and other matters. Also included is a pocket memorandum book with records for 1893 of J. S. Carter.
