Andrew Jackson letter, 1814 July 16.

Andrew Jackson wrote this letter to his wife upon his arrival at Fort Jackson, La. He discusses the prospects of further conflicts with Indian war parties, and relates his intent to return to Tennessee soon, pending the outcome of an impending meeting with tribal leaders. Jackson also mentions the plight of starving Indian families, and instructs his wife to take good care of two horses he has sent to her.

Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. Born on March 15, 1767 in the Waxhaw Settlement in South Carolina; though just a boy, participated in the battle of Hanging Rock during the Revolution, captured by the British and imprisoned. Born Rachel Donelson. Some time after 1780 she married Lewis Robards and later separated from him. In 1791, believing herself divorced, she married Andrew Jackson. Later it was discovered that Robards had never completed the proceedings, and the Jacksons had to wait for a final decree and re-marry in 1794.
