[Commonplace book]. 1698-1699.

Commonplace book of Philip Beach, dated 1698-1699, containing predominantly religious poetry. It is unclear if any of the recorded passages are original work. Beach was probably the son of William Beach, who was deprived of his position as rector Orcheston St. George, Wiltshire in 1689 for refusing oaths to William and Mary, and the author of "A letter to Thomas Burnet Esq" published in 1736. This volume was previously owned by Wilfred Merton (born Schmiechen), a prominent British book collector.

[70] p., bound ; 19 cm.
