Edward Livingston papers, 1801-1836 (1820-1836).

Documents and letters (mostly in French) of Edward Livingston relating to the controversy over the Batture Ste. Marie. Mortgages, acts and resolutions of the City Council of New Orleans pertaining to Livingston's offer of compromise to secure a clear title to his land constitute most of the papers (1820-1822). Correspondence from Denis Prieur, mayor of New Orleans, to Livingston while he was the U. S. senator from Louisiana and Secretary of State concern affairs in New Orleans (1829-1832). Included in the collection is a photocopy of a letter to Aaron Burr referring to Burr's lawsuit (1809), and photocopies of Dept. of Justice records relating to Livingston's settlement of the account of the Dept. of Treasury (1820-1830).

Aaron Burr Jr. (February 6, 1756 – September 14, 1836) was an American politician and lawyer. A Founding Father, he served as the third vice president of the United States during President Thomas Jefferson's first term from 1801 to 1805.
