Mary E. Hutchinson and Dorothy King papers, 1900-1988.

The collection consists of the papers of Mary E. Hutchinson and Dorothy King, including correspondence, writings, artwork, scrapbooks, photographs, and printed material from 1900-1988. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, including letters from to and from Hutchinson throughout her lifetime, relating to her personal life as well as her professional career as an artist. In addition, there is a large amount of correspondence between Dorothy King, her mother, and fiance, Will Ferguson. The collection also includes the writings and correspondence of Minne Belle Hutchinson as well as a small amount of material relating to Dorothy King's mother's family, the Sewells.

Mary Elizabeth Hutchinson (1906-1970), artist and teacher, and her partner of 25 years, Dorothy King (1908-1988), lived in Atlanta, Georgia. Mary was the only daughter of Minnie Belle and Merrell W. Hutchinson, Christian Science practitioners. Hutchinson's mother, Minnie Belle took up art and poetry later in life, exhibiting her work at galleries and museums in Atlanta.
