Esther Pauline Lederer (b. 1918; nee Friedman; nicknamed Eppie) became the advice columnist Ann Landers in 1954 for the Chicago Sun-Times. Her column's topics included sexuality, marital roles and family relationships, divorce, drugs and alcoholism, and ethical issues. It eventually was syndicated in over 1100 newspapers.
