M. Leonard D'Ooge was born in East Milton, Mass. in 1924. He joined the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and was assigned to Company D of the 85th Infantry Regiment. D'Ooge was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions in the Apennines and Po Valley and had attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
