Burton R. Brazil talks about his early education and teaching career before coming to San Jose State in 1953 to teach history and political science. He discusses his appointment to Mayor of the newly incorporated city of Saratoga. He further discusses the various faculty members he worked with and the different positions and duties he held at San Jose State University.

Born in Eureka, California, H. Brett Melendy (1924-2008) spent most of his life in California and Hawaii. He received his Master of Arts in Education in 1948 and his Doctorate in History in 1952 from Stanford University. During this time, he also taught high school in Fresno, California. Melendy began his academic career as a history professor at San JoseĢ State College in 1955.
