Cornelia McGimsey papers, 1856-1868 [manuscript].

The collection is chiefly letters to Laura Cornelia McGimsey of Linville River, Burke County, N.C., from Confederate soldiers, concerning the progress of the war, the unloading of blockade runners, engagements in eastern North Carolina, fishing along the coast, and the rebuilding of bridges. Most of these letters are from Lewis Warlick, whom McGimsey married during the war, and who served with the 11th North Carolina Regiment. Most were written from Virginia, and the U.S. General Hospital, David's Island, N.Y., in 1863. Letters of courtship, 1866-1868, are from E. A. Warlick, John R. Denton, Samuel P. Tate, and J. Free Munday after Warlick died.
