The accession includes correspondence, memoranda, research notes, photographs and other material documenting Dr. Fox's research, teaching and other activities at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The collection consists mainly of Dr. Fox's correspondence, research notes and other material concerning his research on cartenoids. The accession also includes biographical material and a typescript of Dr. Fox's autobiography: Again the scene. The accession include files on the controversy surrounding the appointment of Roger Revelle as Director of Scripps in 1948 and 1950, files on the University of California loyalty oath controversy of 1950, and material received by Dr. Fox from the Scripps Office of the Director from 1954-1960 which document the creation of the University of California, San Diego, and several folders documenting Dr. Fox's long association with the San Diego Zoological Society.
