Includes correspondence, literary productions, scrapbook material, printed material, and photographs. Collection bulks (1950-1968) with printed material which includes programs of the various activities of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs. Of special interest are complete sets of the South Plains Genealogical Society Bulletins from December 1961 to May 1968. There is also a list of Confederate and Union graves in Lubbock and Slaton cemeteries.

Pearl Jakes Smith was born near Roy, MT to Albert and Barbara Jakes in 1923. The Jakes family moved to Montana from Alenia, MN in 1915 homesteading 26 miles northeast of Roy. Albert and Barbara sold the homestead to the federal government in 1936 and moved to Roy. Barbara died in 1945 and Albert in 1971. They had nine children: Barbara, Albert, Frank, Edward, George, Helen, Lillie and twins Earl and Pearl. Pearl Jakes married Clay Smith in 1945. She operated a patent medicine store in Roy 1946-1...

A former assistant to Congressman George H. Mahon, a historian, and a genealogist, Dorothy Rylander was born in 1909 in Belton, Texas, and moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 1918. She received her B.A. in history from Texas Technological College in 1930 and her M.A. in 1931.
