With his father George Webb Slaughter and brothers, established frontier ranch in Palo Pinto County, Texas, in 1857. Participated in Civil War as frontier militia and Texas Rangers. Drove cattle over Chisholm Trail and later moved operations to West Texas where by 1905 he owned 40,000 cattle and controlled over one million acres.
