ArchivalResource

Log lien record, 1882-1942 [microform].

Record shows names of petitioners and their attorneys, "names of persons at whose request labor or materials were furnished," dates of filing petitions and attachment bark and end marks, amounts claimed, and, in some cases, notes that liens were discharged or satisfied. Most entries date before 1900. State Legislation in 1849, frequently modified in subsequent years, provided those who had invested labor and supplies in the lumbering process with a relatively simple means of insuring their investment. While details of the lien provisions varied over time and by region, the labor lien generally had a primary claim on cut timber or log.
