William C. Tait papers, 1865-1928.

Papers of William C. Tait principally consist of correspondence pertaining to business and personal matters and receipts for payments of state and property taxes, rent, purchases of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies, and work done by concrete contractors. The bulk of the correspondence concerns Tait's plans to set up a druggist's business in Alexandria and an unfavorable verdict against Tait in a court case in which he was involved concerning a mortgage foreclosure. Also included are several letters by Thomas Mullett of Lake Charles, La., who describes landscaping work on a plot of land and an orchard owned by Tait and offers spiritual counsel. Among the other items included the papers are the will of Eliza Tait, William Tait's wife, who died in 1905; licenses from the Louisiana State Auditor's board authorizing Tait to work as a pharmacist; a lock of hair; prescriptions; and two small notebooks containing jottings about treatments and drug dosages.
