Maria Miller Hill Franck papers, 1828-1879 (bulk 1867-1871).

Personal correspondence of Franck, a Quaker from Jones County, N.C., who was first married to Samuel Hill (d. 1859) of Randolph County, N.C., then to John Martin Franck (d. 1868) of Onslow County, N.C. The collection includes letters, chiefly 1867-1871, from her relatives and friends in Goldsboro, New Bern, Kinston, Richlands, and other eastern North Carolina towns, with several letters also from New Garden, N.C.; Carthage, Ind.; and Galesburg, Ill. The letters give news of the households of the writers, refer to Quaker affairs, and allude to a dispute over Samuel Hill's will. The collection also contains a small diary kept by Franck with inermittent entries, 1859-1869, that are primarily introspective.
