Norman O. Gunderson disccusses his early education and his first job at San Jose State College as an assistant professor of engineering . Gunderson also talks about the major effort to plan and develop a new 4.5 million dollar engineering building. He also discusses how he was appointed dean of engineering studies and how under his leadership, engineering education developed into a professionally recognized school of engineering. He also discusses how he led the political fight to get the engineering program accredited and to also offer a masters degree.

Born in Eureka, California, H. Brett Melendy (1924-2008) spent most of his life in California and Hawaii. He received his Master of Arts in Education in 1948 and his Doctorate in History in 1952 from Stanford University. During this time, he also taught high school in Fresno, California.
