Papers of Samuel Putnam, justice of the Mass. Supreme Judicial Court, contain letters on current national politics from U.S. senators Timothy Pickering and William Reed. Among the specific political topics discussed are U.S. commerce, the non-importation acts, the Embargo, and the War of 1812. The papers also contain family letters, letters to his wife, Sarah G. Putnam, and letters from Mass. judges on legal cases and court matters. These correspondents include Paine Wingate, John Pickering, Isaac Parker, Charles Jackson, and Charles G. Loring. Also included is an account book of current expenses from 1835-1841 identified as belonging to James Jackson, Sr.
