Examination of Ferry (Caddo) Lake records, 1913-1915.

Records relate to a study of Ferry Lake (now called Caddo Lake) conducted by the U.S. Department of the Interior, 1913-1915. The lake is situated on the border of Louisiana and Texas. The study was used to settle disputes over public versus private ownership of the lake after oil was discovered in the area. The study was based on geological and ecological evidence gathered principally by Arthur Kidder, Supervisor of Surveys of the General Land Office, Frank Leverett, a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, and Lionel Janes, an ecologist with the General Land Office. Records consist of copies of documents produced by the study; copies were made from microfilm housed in the National Archives. Included are reports by Kidder and Leverett, extensive reports and descriptions by Lionel Janes, Janes' photographic folio, and maps and plats of the area. Records are bound into three volumes with introductory notes by Jacques D. Bagur, the compiler of the documents. Maps and plats are housed separately.
