John Q. Winfield letters, 1861-1862.

Letters from Winfield to his wife Sallie at Cootes Store, Rockingham County, Va., and Woodstock, Va., while he was serving in the Shenandoah Valley and western Virginia (especially near Romney, now in West Virginia) early in the Civil War. The letters discuss, sometimes in detail, military movements and personnel, and encounters with Union forces.
