Charles L. Keyes letters, 1862-1863.

Letters relate Keyes' experiences while stationed in Louisiana during his service with the 52nd Massachusetts Infantry. Letters include descriptions of his steamship voyage aboard the Illinois, and camp life in Baton Rouge, New Iberia, Camp Stoneman, Barres Landing, and Port Hudson. Letters (1863 May 31-June 5) from Port Hudson were written from the breastworks and describe conditions during the siege.
