Mercury collection, 1954-1990 and undated (inclusive), 1969-1983 (bulk.)

The Mercury collection of Marion Lamm was acquired in its entirety in 1997 as a gift from Rochelle Lamm Wallach. The Marion Lamm Mercury Collection consists of the library/research collection gathered by Marion Lamm beginning in the early 1970's and spanning to the lated 1980's. It is believed that Marion began collecting related materials in order to sufficiently document the claim brought against Dryden Chemicals, Limited and Dryden Pulp and Paper Company. Later the collection became a storehouse for researchers interested in the mercury pollution case. Documents were used at the Lamm's home where they were kept in the "library" as well as copied and sent to parties unable to travel to the Lamm's home. Although not certain, Marion may have collected materials herself from various libraries, some materials were sent to her by others who knew of her collection, while they have also hired a person to collect documentation from various sources. Topics relate to mercury poisoning (Minamata disease), tourism, governmental action, tourism reactions, governmental research, scientific research, socio-economic effects of mercury poisoning on Ojibway Indians, effects of mercury poisoning on Japanese living in Minamata Bay, Japan, health effects of mercury poisoning, industries responsible for pollution, uses of industrial mercury Materials represented are correspondence; clippings; reports; scientific research; wrtitings; governmental statements and actions; photographs; legal documents; ephemera; reprints; audiotapes; scrapbooks
