"There hath bene received for the use of the Navy, by Sr. Thomas Osborne (now Lord High Trea[su]rer of England) and Sr. Tho Littleton then Commissioner for Executing the Office of Treas[ur]er of the Navy, out of the Exchequer and ohtherwise the sume of two hundred and thirty thousand one hundred twenty seaven pounds one shilling and five pence and noe more betweene the twenty ninth day of September one thousand six hundred sixty nine and the twenty ninth day of September ano one thousand six hundred and seaventy. Jas. Littleton."

Thomas Osborne, Earl of Danby (1631/32-1712), son of a Yorkshire baronet, entered Parliament as member for York in 1661, served Charles II in a series of adminstrative positions, and was made Lord High Treasurer and Earl of Danby in 1674. In 1678, he pressed for the investigation of the Popish Plot, but the Commons impeached him in December of that year for his involvement in the French "subsidies" to Charles II.
