Hale's correspondence with Franklin Pierce; Hale's correspondence concerning the anti-slavery issue. Includes papers relating to Hale's political activities and his service as minister to Spain. Includes personal papers of Hale's daughter, Lucy (Hale) Chandler and her husband, William Eaton Chandler, as well as family records (1822-1859) of the Hale, O'Brien, and Parker families of Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
