Shockley Incident records, 1969-1970.

Collection consists of records relating to the Shockley Incident, which occured on Oct. 15, 1969, when a group of black students prevented William Shockley from presenting a controversial scientific paper, Offset analysis description of racial differences, to the National Academy of Sciences, which was holding its annual meeting at Dartmouth College. Includes letters to students regarding their hearings before the Committee on Standing and Conduct and letters from alumni and professors regarding the incident and the disciplinary action taken by the college. Also includes Brewster's correspondence regarding the incident.
