Landaff was granted to Dartmouth College on Jan. 19, 1770. An earlier grant of 1764 had been forfeited, because the grantees had not fulfilled the conditions of the settlement. Eleazar Wheelock was born in Windham, Conn. in 1711. A Congregational minster, he was the founder and first president of Dartmouth College. He died in Hanover, N.H. in 1779. Wheelock, John, 1754-1817

John Wheelock was born in Lebanon, Conn. in 1754. He attended Yale University for three years, then transferred to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1771 with the first class.
