John Henry Neville was born November 16, 1827 in Christian County, Kentucky. From 1859 to 1865 he was connected with Kentucky University in Harrodsburg, Kentucky which moved to Lexington and became Transylvania University after the Civil War. In 1880 he became professor of Greek and Latin at State College of Kentucky, which ultimately became the University of Kentucky.
