Mary Sprague collection, 1900-1980.

The collection consists of one bound volume that includes Mary Sprague's books, A Cape Cod Village, and Barnstable, A Bit of Nostalgia, both published in the 1960's, accompanied by a volume of clippings, notes and photographs that were inserted in the books and later removed to be stored separately. The collection also includes an audio interview with Mary and additional photographs of the family.

Mary Sprague (1890-1980) daughter of Sarah and Francis W. Sprague and granddaughter of Caleb Gardner Sprague, lived on Rendezvous Lane in Barnstable Village. Mary's great-grandfather, a deep sea "Cap'n" from the age of 21 until he retired from the sea at age of 73, came from Hingham, and married Sarah Gorham of Cummaquid. Her grandfather, grandmother, and father were all born in Barnstable and spent their summers there. In her books, Mary recollects the people, places, and history of Barnstable ...
