[Letter], 1722 Jan. 30 : London [to] Hen. Davenant, Esq.

A 1722 letter from Sir Richard Steele to Henry Molins Davenant, the grandson of Sir William Davenant, about a play Davenant wished to have produced. In an attempt to escape any obligation to help Davenant with his play, Steele claims that his word in Drury Lane does not carry any authoritative weight and he is unable to provide any assistance. This letter was recorded by Rae Blanchard in her Correspondence of Richard Steele, but never published in full.
