This collection mainly consists of legal interrogatories used in Georgia Superior Courts from 1859-1866. One of the interrogatories, dated March 8, 1852, concerns Shands & Co., a partnership represented by Wier Boyd, which filed suit against Andrew Howell and Andrew Mullinax to recover damages for gold stolen from a mine. The suit was initially brought to court in Greenwood Township, El Dorado County, California, and later in Lumpkin County, Georgia, and was tried three times before a verdict was reached. The collection also consists of legal correspondence and documents in which Colonel Wier Boyd was involved in Lumpkin County, Georgia.

Colonel Wier G. Boyd (1820 -1893) was born to William R. Boyd and Elizabeth Burton in Hall County, Georgia on September 14, 1820. His family moved to Lumpkin County, Georgia in 1835. On February 9, 1843, he married Sarah J. Sitton. They had five children: Augustus; Lydia; Marion; Martha; and Sarah. In 1850, Boyd was elected Clerk of the Superior Court.
