Law clubs were established to provide students an opportunity to practice preparing and arguing law cases as realistically as possible. Law clubs began to be founded at Harvard in the 19th century; one of the earliest was the Marshall Club, founded in 1825. Wambaugh was a professor at the Harvard Law School from 1892-1925. His career included terms as member of the board of editors for the American Political Science Review (1906-1913), special counsel to the U.S. State Department (1914), delegate to the Pan American Scientific Congress (1915-1916) and Counsel of the Peruvian Government on Tacna-Arica Plebiscite (1925-26).
