This series contains a variety of materials that relate to the life of Robert F. Poole. Included are lists of Poole's publications, a list of graduate students he advised during his career as associate professor at North Carolina State College, vitae and biographical sketches that appeared in biographical directories, and genealogical information about the Poole family. One item, a datebook kept by Poole in 1943, contains entries of his personal and office appointments; a register of guests is contained in the same folder. The series also contains clippings from newspapers that reported Poole's public addresses and remarks on various issues, his attendance at meetings and conferences, and his death and funeral. A number of memorial tributes paid to President Poole by Clemson College and service organizations are found within the series.

Robert Franklin Poole, 1893-1958 was a noted plant pathologist and president of Clemson College from 1940-1958. A 1916 graduate of Clemson College, Poole received his M.S. and Ph. D. in plant pathology from Rutgers University. Poole was appointed associate professor and plant pathologist at North Carolina College in 1926. As president of Clemson from 1940-1958, he oversaw the de-militarization of the campus, the admission of women, and major changes in the physical plant of the campus. ...
