The collection consists of photographs and ephemera documenting the international social reform movement at the turn of the twentieth century. Housing, social settlements, race, workers' benefits, recreation, and education are among the subjects covered. Though much of the work is by unidentified makers, photographers represented include Frances Benjamin Johnston, Percy Byron, and Lewis Hine. There is also a wide range of archival material, including albums, blue prints, plans, diagrams, booklets, hand-written matter, homework, and handcrafted objects.
