Holmes, Nathaniel, 1815-1901

Holmes was born in Peterborough, N.H. and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1838. He was admitted to the Suffolk Bar in 1839 and moved to St. Louis where he served as judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri from 1865 to 1868. He was professor of law at Harvard Law School from 1868 to 1872. He wrote extensively questioning the authorship of works attributed to Shakespeare. From the description of Speeches, 1864-1899.
