Letters dated 1927 and 1930 are Hughes' responses to Harvard Law School librarian Eldon James' requests for Hughes' autograph. In letter dated 16 June 1928, Hughes responds to James' suggestion that Hughes be nominated for membership in the Permanent Court of International Justice at the Hague, replacing judge John Bassett Moore.
