Whiteware, semi-vitreous plate is glazed. On the back of the plate is a maker's mark for Knowles, Taylor & Knowles of East Liverpool, Ohio. On the front of the plate is a blue transfer decal of Ohioan William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. McKinley is wearing a dark suit and bow tie and is looking off to the right. The border of the plate has a blue background with a floral print overlay.

President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand. Knowles, Taylor & Knowles was founded by Isaac Knowles and Isaac Harvey in 1854 in East Liverpool, Ohio. The partners produced Rockingham and yellow queensware. In 1870, Knowles brought son Homer Knowles and son-in-law John Taylor into the firm and produced whiteware, yellowware and ironstone pieces.
