Prominent Chicano playwright, poet, and journalist. Born in Chicago on October 15, 1947. Son of a U.S. Army sergeant who changed the family name from PeĢrez to Morton. Received his BA in English from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1975; his MFA in Drama from the University of California San Diego in 1979; and his PhD in Drama from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987.
