Stephen Markham was an early member of the LDS Church, a friend of Joseph Smith, and a pioneer. He was also a Colonel in the Nauvoo Legion. He was with Joseph Smith in Carthage until he was driven out of the city at bayonet point by an angry mob until blood filled his boots. Joseph was martyred later that night. He was later appointed by Brigham Young to be captain over several pioneer companies to Utah. From the description of Markham family photographs, circa 1860s-1900s. (Unknown)...
