The collection, dedicated to Wahl's teacher and mentor at University High School in Iowa City, Dr. Ruth Lane, contains biographical data, awards, and a scrapbook with newspaper clippings documenting Wahl's personal life. Her professional life is represented by her published articles, presentations given to illustrate various methods of teaching mathematics, artifacts and kits she devised to teach mathematics to children, photographs, and two Super 8 films.

Martha "Stacey" Wahl, an educator and self-professed "gadgeter" and "pioneer in hands-on math," was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1916. She received a B.A. from the State university of Iowa in 1938 and an M.A. from Columbia University. She taught high school mathematics for seven years and then mathematics and computer science at Western Connecticut State University, retiring in 1986.
