Records of Keith/Albee, 1890-1952.

The records of Keith/Albee include resources for studying vaudeville on the east coast and Ohio. It chronicles the expansion of the circuit, changes of leadership, and the eventual decline of vaudeville. The focus is on vaudeville in Rhode Island, but also includes Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, Ohio, and New York. Subject files contain topics as diverse as usher's manuals to building permits and price schedules to correspondence. The 148 oversized scrapbooks comprise the bulk of the collection. There are 24 managers' report books which include reviews of acts, censorship accounts, suggestions for billing, etc. 108 clipping books (1894-1935) document the publicity for acts performing at the Keith Theater in Providence, RI. More advertising is found in a caricature book and five other volumes. Cash books, a book of cast lists, and report sheets make up the rest of the books. Finally, the records contain playbills, posters, and architectural drawings.
