Letter to Maj. John M. O'Connor, New York, from George H. Richards, in New London, Conn., urging that he (O'Connor) be given the position of commanding officer at Fort Trumbull in New London. Letter indicates that that O'Connor is qualified, would like the area, and needs the command to further his career, due to fact that the present commanding officer, Capt. McDowell, would like to leave the post. It is further indicated that Messers Gardner, Brown, Swift, Parker, and Crawford, would be instrumental in in his acquiring the post.
