Francis T. Nicholls letter press copy book and notebooks, 1877-1879.

The letter press copy book contains official correspondence concerning financial matters of Nicholls' administration, criminal acts, elections, instructions to the LSU Board of Supervisors and other state officials, and other governmental matters (Feb. 12, 1877-Jan. 10, 1879). Two undated legal notebooks, said to have been prepared by Nicholls, contain references to constitutional, statutory, and judicial provisions pertaining chiefly to the state government and its officials.

Francis T. Nicholls graduated in 1855 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, studied law at the University of Louisiana (subsequently Tulane University) in New Orleans, and practiced law in Napoleonville, La.
