Born Felix Joachimson in Germany in 1902, Jackson was a music critic and writer in 1920's Berlin, when he met Kurt Weill. They collaborated on an opera entitled Na und?, now lost, and became fast friends. Jackson moved to the United States in the late 1930's and pursued a successful career in films (most notably as the screenwriter for Destry rides again). Shepperd Strudwick was born September 22, 1907 in Hillsboro, North Carolina. He was educated at the University of North Carolina and was a member of the university's acting troupe "The Carolina Playmakers.'' He was married to Helen Wynn, Jane Straub, Margaret O'Neill, and Mary Jeffrey. He studied with Leo Bulgakov, Samuel Rosen, and Lee Strasberg.
