Marshall E. Keister was born on November 11, 1885. When he was young, his family moved to Dauphin, Pennsylvania where he worked as a clerk until the United States entered World War I. On June 22, 1916, Keister enlisted in the United States Army. Keister served in the Army during World War II and was stationed at the Embarkation Camp at St. Nazaire, France.
