Suffragist and author Harriet Taylor Upton (1853-1945) was born in Ravenna, Ohio. Upon her father's election to Congress in 1880, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she developed a close acquaintance with national Republican leaders and came in contact with leading suffragists.
