Oral history collection consisting of 15 interviews conducted for the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies from 2003-2006. Series I, No other road: 1953 Red and Black editors stand up for equality and free speech documents in a public oral history, the experiences of the editors of the University of Georgia's newspaper, Red and Black, who in 1953 resigned in protest following their defense of Horace Ward's right to attend the University of Georgia Law School. Moderated by Harry Montevideo, the program includes interviewers Dr. Maurice Daniels and Dr. Kent Middleton, with an appreciation by University of Georgia president Michael Adams. Series II, A life of public service: a conversation with Judge Griffin B. Bell, former U.S. Attorney General is an interview with Griffin Bell by William R. "Bill" Shipp, discussing Bell's career and his tenure as U.S. Attorney General. Series III, A conversation with Robert A. "Bobby" Rowan is an interview with former Georgia state senator Bobby Rowan, with interviewers including Sheryl B. Vogt, Frank P. Spence, Greta R. Browning, and Mary Ellen Brooks. Series IV, A life of public service: a conversation with Judge Anthony A. Alaimo documents, in an interview by Charles E. Campbell, Alaimo's imprisonment during World War II, his career as a U.S. District Court Judge, and his role in the Guthrie v. Evans prison case. Series V, Sandy Creek Oral History Project, is a collection of six interviews, conducted by Sarah Duncan, with individuals who worked in building Sandy Creek Park and Nature Center in Athens, GA. Series VI, A conversation with Margaret R. Bennett, is an interview with the widow of foreign service officer and U.S. Ambassador William Tapley Bennett, Jr., by Dr. Ieda Siqueira Wiarda. Series VII, A conversation with Pete Wheeler, is a discussion, with Dr. William Stueck and Dr. James Cobb, of Wheeler's long career as Georgia's Commissioner of Veterans Services. Series VIII, A conversation with Tom Watson Brown, consists of an interview by William R. "Bill" Shipp of Brown, attorney, historian, philanthropist, and conservative thinker. Series IX, A conversation with Carl E. Sanders, is an interview of the former Georgia governor by George W. Justice.
