Hoagy Carmichael was born in Bloomington, Indiana, November 22, 1899, the son of Howard Clyde and Lida Mary (Robinson) Carmichael. He earned a LLB from Indiana University in 1926, and married Ruth Mary Meinardi on March 14, 1936.
